There he is in the middle, #3 for the "Super Kickers"!
Reagan and his team
Kicking it in from the sideline.
The whole team, minus a few straggler who were late.
As some of you may know, we attempted soccer with Reagan (at his request) back when he was 3 years old. It went......okay, I guess you could say. He mainly ran around pretending to be Buzz Lightyear, spinning around in circles, and would spend time running onto other soccer fields playing in their games and picking flowers and weeds. It was a little frustrating (and by that I mean for us, he loved the idea of standing in the middle of an open field and playing for an hour every Saturday.)! It got to the point that all of us, his coaches included, kind of gave up on the idea that he would be the next Beckham and we just let him do his thing.
So you can imagine how apprehensive we were about signing him up for another season this year. Ryan and I didn't bother wasting our breath telling him all the things NOT to do this time in fear it would trigger a memory of the last time he played and we would be forced to call him "Buzz" for another 12 weeks of his life! But, to our surprise, he did AWESOME! We were thrilled! He is #3 (with BLACK uniforms of all colors!!!) for the team they named the "Super Kickers" through our YMCA. He played attack (which is where they just stay on the ball the entire time, following it wherever it goes, trying to make a goal) and defense (where they stay relatively close to the goal and block anyone from trying to get past, then they go right back to there spots as soon as the ball is a good distance away). His coach said he would defiantly play those positions every game because he was SO good at them. She told Ryan (who by-the-way, got sucked into being the assistant coach because he's WAY to nice to say no) that she hasn't seen a kid stay on the ball and keep running the entire game like Reagan has! He came about 5 inches on the left side of the goal from scoring his very first goal! We were so excited for him! He tried out goaly too, but he didn't really care for it. He got a little bored. And there were a couple of times I had to holler for him to untangle himself from the net and pay attention (I could see a Buzz Lightyear flashback happening at that moment and all I could think of was "get him out of that position!!!").
Carter was a very good little brother and cheered him on the whole game from his seat with me on the sideline. He kept saying "I go play too Mama?!". Who knows, maybe we'll have two soccer stars in the family!
We are so proud of our little Reagan. We celebrated with lunch at Tijuana Flats followed by Brusters for ice cream (none for Mom and Dad of course ;) ). And after playing a 9am tball game AND having soccer pictures at 11am followed by a 12 noon game in the 90 degree weather, we all crashed for a much needed afternoon nap!
